December 2020

In December, our Mercator Fellow Franjo Weissing from the Netherlands visited Mainz. Due to the pandemic situation his visit took place in a virtual formate.

During this time, he gave a lecture about his research to the GenEvo community. Besides, he trained our PhD students in a workshop on "Evolutionary design principles underlying gene regulation".  Supported by his colleague Stefany Moreno Gamez, who was at that time in Columbia, it was a quite international experience. Moreover, Franjo met virtually with several GenEvo PhD students and GenEvo PIs to discuss their latest research.

We thank Franjo for the engaging workshop and the interessting lecture & discussions and look forward to ongoing collaborations and hopefully a future on-site visits in Mainz!
